The
Split Step |
The
split step is a very important part of a tennis
player's ability to play an all court game, particularly
when you are closing into the net.
The most important part of the split step is to
be sure that you are stepping forward and that your
weight is going in the direction of the ball coming
towards you. You should split as your opponent's
about to hit the ball, quickly assess the direction
of the ball, and come down moving towards it with
your racket extended. If you have served and are
about to volley, a split step helps you balance
yourself to make an effective shot, and keep moving
in. Good players are constantly making small splits
to help change direction.
