A
very common mistake players make is to use the
wrist on the volley. Have the player choke the
racket, now when the wrist snaps, the player can
clearly see that the racket head is leading. Remind
the player to keep the butt of the racket and
the head of the racket parallel to the net for
a controlled volley.
Another
solution to help a player who is mishitting volleys
all over the frame by adding excessive wrist movement
is to simply have the player hold the racket with
the butt facing forward. Tell them to try and
have the ball make contact with this tiny hitting
area. Now when they turn the racket around and
use the full racket face, the volley should be
much more accurate.
