Tennis Tips - Serves

How to Get a More Powerful Serve
The question people ask me most often is how to get a more powerful serve. Here are some progressions for adding speed.

Take a ball and smash it on the ground with a service motion and see how high it will rebound off the ground. Have someone time how many seconds the ball is in the air before hitting the ground. The longer the elapsed time, the more powerful the racket arm is.

Throw a ball as far as you can. Then do the same throwing motion with your racket as you hit the ball. The two movements are virtually identical in technique.

Stand on the baseline and hit the serve so the ball hits the opposite fence on the fly. Gradually aim lower while still maintaining the racket head speed until you are serving in the service court at high speed.
