| I
have just returned from the US Open, where the best
tennis players in the world were playing, and I
noted that even these top players sometimes hit
the ball in the net. When you think about how high
the sky is, it seems silly to hit a ball into a
barrier of only 3 feet. I thought about the signs
at the zoo that tell you not to feed the animals,
and decided it was appropriate for tennis players
as well. I now have a sign on our training courts
"Do Not Feed The Net."
To
break the habit of hitting without enough clearance,
string a rope 6 feet high over the net. Rally
with a partner and try to hit over this barrier.
You win a point every time you hit over, and 10
points if you hit the rope. This should do it.
